Join us for an amazing event to help send our United Rookstars to SuperNationals this May in Orlando, FL. We will have 3 rated sections and 2 unrated sections.

 

This tournament is appropriate for students of all ages and chess ability. Everyone will walk away with a prize, either a medal or a trophy.

 

There will be a comfortable seating area along with access to an outdoor yard to run around in between games. There will be food and merchandise for sale. We will have exciting raffles and giveaways. We also will have our amazing parent volunteers and wonderful tournament staff to help your child have an extremely positive chess tournament experience. Everyone is a winner at Arts and Letters United!

Unrated Sections

We will have two Novice unrated sections. Novice is a section for those who are brand new to Tournament Chess
  • Novice 1: This is a section for students in grades K-2 who are relatively new to tournament chess and do not have a USCF rating above 200. There will be top 10 place trophies and then participation trophies for all other players
  • Novice 2: This is a section for players in grades 3-6 who have little to no experience with tournament chess. This is a gentle introduction to tournament chess There will be top 10 place trophies with medals for all other participants

Rated Sections

Players must have a valid USCF ID. If you don't have an ID, please JOIN THE USCF HERE: https://new.uschess.org/join-us-chess
  • K-5 Rookie U500: This is a section for students in grades K-5 who have a USCF rating of <500 There will be top 5 place trophies with medals for all other participants
  • K-12 Reserve U900: This is a section for players in grades K-8 who have a USCF rating of <900 There will be top 5 place trophies with medals for all other participants
  • K-12 Championship 900+: This is a section for players in grades K-12 rated > 900 USCF There will be top 5 place trophies with medals for all other participants

Schedule

Check in is from 9:15 - 9:45 AM for ALL sections. We will begin promptly at 10:00 AM. Rounds will begin as soon as all games in the section have concluded. There will be a short grace period before the next match pairings are posted.

Entry Fee and Other Information

Early bird entry will be $30 until Monday, November 11 at 11:59 PM

Regular entry will be $35 until Monday, November 18 at 11:59 PM

Late entry will be $40 until Friday, November 22 at 5:00 PM 

Time controls: All rated sections are G 30 d/5. Unrated sections play with no clock. In the event 40 minutes passes and there are still players remaining, clocks will be placed on their games.
